Eating healthy while trying to make your favorite meal for you and your mom is not always easy when your hands shake. It was like a game of boxing with food vs. tremor vs human. Who would win? For the most part I was winning against the tremor while making food till I tried to pour the wine. I started off by making a salad with lettuce, tomatoes, feta cheese, and Italian dressing. The lettuce took over me and while cutting the lettuce was getting all over the counter and falling off the plate. I managed to successfully measure 1/4 cup of feta cheese. The dressing seemed to pour out endlessly with the tremors taking over my control of the allocation of the amount of dressing I wanted to use. The salad with a few minor hiccups was a success.
Most people with tremors know that wine could take away the tremor for a short period of time. what is more ironic than a bottle of Riesling that is from the Relaxed vineyard? People know that one key to tremor reduction is to relax. I was at Ralphs and thought this looks like a tasty bottle of wine and that it would go well with the salmon and salad that I made for dinner that day. The best part about the bottle of wine is that it had a twist top cap rather than a corkscrew. This top made it so that I could open and enjoy the wine without help. The wine was fruity and did not leave to much of a bitter after taste. It took a while before I could enjoy the sweet taste of Riesling. I got a wine glass and was ready to pour the wine. I went to pour the wine and the next thing I knew as I went to pick up the bottle was that it had slipped rite out of my hands. As it slipped out of my hands, it luckily fell on the bottom with a little bit of wine splashing out the top. After regaining my confidence to pour the wine, I was able to with some shaking of the hands pour a nice serving of the wine and enjoy it with my salmon and salad. I did not let the wine conquer me and despite the hiccup was able to enjoy a delicious fruity Riesling.
At this point, I had finished making the salad and the wine was poured. I was almost ready to eat dinner with my mom, but needed to first make the Sockeye salmon. It was easy lining the pan with the tin foil, then putting the salmon on the pan. I waited for the oven to preheat at 350 and then put the salmon in the oven. While the salmon was baking, me and my mom enjoyed the salad and wine.
After 16 minutes, the salmon was done. I took it out of the oven, cut it into 6 oz portions, and then put it on a plate. It was now time to enjoy the salmon with the pairing of the Relaxed Riesling. The meal was very tasty and after I put the dishes in the dishwasher.
Overall, going back to the concept of food vs. tremor. vs human as a boxing match, the preparing of the meal went well. I would say that with the salmon being easy to make that the human won over the food and tremor. With the wine, at first the tremor won. Once I poured the wine into the glass, I was able to become victorious and take down the tremor and the food. With the salad, at first the tremor won, but then I was able to win the first round after I finished cutting the lettuce and moved onto preparing the tomatoes, then putting the feta on the salad. The dressing beat me and the tremor won. Overall, I did not get hurt and would say that as the human preparing the meal that the tremor and food was defeated. I did not let the tremors stop me from making a delicious meal. I was able to enjoy the food that I prepared with my mom and would cook another meal!
